-
- 3. GETTING STARTED
-
- 3.1 PROGRAM INSTALLATION
-
- FLOPPY DISK : To play from a Floppy Disk, copy all files to a floppy
- disk, and at the DOS prompt type VC <Enter>. This will load the
- program in memory.
-
- HARD DISK : to install on a Hard Disk simply create a directory
- and copy all files from the floppy disks to that directory of the
- Hard disk. The following example assumes your Hard Disk is C and
- your Floppy is Drive A. Type the following :
- C: ( Change current drive to C )
- MD C:\VGACON ( Create VGACON subdirectory )
- CD C:\VGACON ( Change directory )
- ( Insert floppy disk in drive A )
- COPY A:\*.* C:\VGACON ( Copy files to Hard disk )
- ( Repeat above step for disk # 2)
-
- To start the program simply type VC <Enter>.
-
-
- 4. OPERATION
-
- GENERAL : If you plan to use the mouse, the mouse driver must be
- loaded before running VC. The program displays information at the
- bottom of the screen whenever a new event takes place.
-
- After you have typed VC <Enter> a list of different VGA cards will
- be displayed. Use the arrow keys to move the highlighted bar to your
- VGA card or an Equivalent one and press <Enter>. Then select a
- pointing device : Keyboard or Mouse and press <Enter>. Please note
- that when using the keyboard, the "NUM LOCK" key must be OFF.
-
-
-
- The very first time you run the program it will try to save the above
- choices in a configuration file called VC.CFG, so next time you run
- the program it will read this file back and know what VGA card you
- have and what is your pointing device preference. If the current disk
- is write-protected you will get a "Write Protect Error Message",
- simply unprotect the disk and retry. Now you are ready to start.
-
- MENUS : When using the mouse, click on the left button to select
- items, click on the right button to skip a selection.
- When using the keyboard, use the arrow keys to move around, press the
- <SPACEBAR> or the <Enter> key to select menu items, press <ESC> to
- exit from the menu selection. The main menu is accessible by
- pressing the key corresponding to the first letter of the menu
- selection, that is press the H key for HELP, P for PICTURES, O
- for OPTIONS and Q to QUIT . ( Also <ESC> will work instead of Q )
-
- TO START : After you have selected VGA card and pointing device the
- program will start. Please note that files VC0256.VL ,
- VC0256.LST, VC016.VL and VC016.LST must be present in your current
- disk and directory.
-
- :------------:
- : HELP : There is on line help that will explain the game
- :------------: objective and what keys to use.
-
- :------------:
- : PICTURES : Select one of the displayed pictures.
- :------------: If you are using the keyboard move by pressing the
- arrow keys and press SPACEBAR or <Enter> to make the
- selection. If you are using the mouse, simply click inside one of the
- displayed pictures. After you solved the game, you can choose another
- one by selecting the PICTURES menu.
-
- :------------:
- : OPTIONS : Allows you to select LEVEL, SPEED, and SOUND.
- :------------:

- from file VC0256.VL. Level 2 is the EXPERT level, 36
- cards. It uses pictures from file VC016.VL.
-
- : SPEED : Controls how long a card is displayed on the screen. What
- speed you should choose depends on how fast is your system
- and who is playing the game. Children or some adults might prefer a
- slow pace . If your system is slow use a faster SPEED. Feel free
- to change it to fit your mood.

-
- TO START : At the DOS prompt type VC followed by <Enter>. Then the
- theme song will be played. You can either wait until the whole song
- is played or you can press a keyboard key or hold a mouse button
- pressed for a while to stop the music before it finishes. Now you are
- ready to start.
-
- TO PLAY : For a quick start just pick a picture from the PICTURES menu.
- * Mouse : Use the mouse to move around and click on a card. Then select
- another until they match. Of course your first few attempts
- are just guesses, use them to memorize the location of the cards.
- * Keyboard : Same as above except that you use the arrow keys to move
- around and the SPACEBAR or <Enter> key to select cards.
- Press H for Help. Continue until all pictures match .
-
- SCORE : Your Current Level, Picture, and Score is displayed at the
- bottom of the screen. Scoring is very simple. You start out
- with a score of 100. Then you only need to select a card at most
- twice, the first time to memorize the card's position and the second
- time to actually match it. Any additional selection of this card will
- result in subtracting one point from your present score. The current
- LEVEL is also displayed at the bottom of the screen.
-
- SUMMARY : After this sample game you may want to experiment with the
- rest of the options, LEVEL, SPEED, different pictures etc.
-
